At Pix

I had a lovely glass of Pix's dessert wine, along with the dessert "Queen of Sheba" (the lack of posts this week is because of my being distracted by the goings-on over here).

Our big black cat sits at this window for hours keeping watch.

At Laughing Planet

We drove around looking at some of the lights up and ended up satisfying T's urge for pumpkin pie at Laughing Planet on Belmont. It was vegan so had a unique consistency. T went next door to a coffeeshop to get the whipped cream.
On our way out of Laughing Planet, I noticed that Pee Wee and Double Burger were ready for Christmas.

1950's Lights

The quality of these photos isn't the greatest. However, I'm happy to see that these old-fashioned colored bulbs are coming back in style. I wasn't crazy about the few I saw last year, but I'm warming up to this year's crop.

A Man and His Pick-Up

That's a sacred bond right there, one I'm guessing a lot of men feel. My husband bought this very-used pick-up today for hauling stuff. The idea is to sell it when we're done with house projects, but check with me in five years...no, make that ten...to see if it's still in our possession.

Daily Grind Mascots

After a third night of restless sleep, I caved and stopped by for a cup of store-bought Stumptown coffee at the Daily Grind on Halsey. The lady in the background seemed distraught that the second Barbie who had been wearing the walnut-cap got stolen this week.

It's All the Rage

Whatever it is, Pinkberry really is delicious. I was sad when I finished this cup.

Pretty in Pink

This fella was not happy to be wearing pink, not one bit.

Frost

I liked the interesting shapes the frost made this morning on our deck:

Roux

My husband took this action shot of my second attempt at getting the roux for my gumbo dark enough. I chickened out, stopping the process, shortly after this was taken.

Rope: part 1

This post reminded me of how photograph-able rope is. I took this photo at the butterfly exhibit this summer at the zoo, just barely managing to get part of the butterfly in the frame (those buggers aren't still for long), but this photo ended up being my favorite from that day.

Donning the Stovepipe

Someone got wrangled into introducing Tony Wolk at the reading of his new book about Abe Lincoln.

Rainboot Thief

Someone tried to steal my favorite boots today, but I'm not naming any names:

They're perfect, Amanda!

Scary Cat

I'm not sure what had happened to this old guy in his long life-time but that stare of his sent chills down my spine, and I like cats.

24 hours in Portland

A gathering of some 500 lame "zombies" in Pioneer Courthouse Square who stood around taking photos of each other instead of grunting and moaning with outstretched arms, what zombies are supposed to do:

balled-up underwear, cough drops, mouthpiece on sandals. Nice combination, I thought:

The Friendliest Baristas in Mississippi

They can be found in Rankin County next to the Piggly Wiggly. When I called them friendly, there were a few 'guffaws' from a couple of customers, I think mainly about the snarky one coming in and out of the back who wouldn't let me take her picture. I like 'em all anyway, even the camera-shy, snarky one.
